INCINERATING GLASS DOES NOT HELP
Singapore only recycled 8% of glass waste (*2023 NEA data). 69,000 MT of glass waste went into the Semakau landfill.
- Singapore waste-to-energy incinerator runs at 850°C while glass melting temperature is almost twice this temperature.
- Even at higher temperature, glass cannot be burnt to ash as its primary component silica is already a non-combustible oxide.
- Incinerating glass waste energy or fuel, and does not reduce volume of glass waste sent to landfill.

How can Singaporeans extend its life? Please do not throw away glass containers from today. Glass containers refuse to become accomplices.

When depositing glass bottles into Recycling Bins
- Please empty all remaining contents
- Ideally give the bottle a quick rinse
- Leaving the label and cap on is fine
Please don’t recycle the items below with glass bottles:
- Ceramic tableware
- Porcelain tableware
- High-temp glass cookware eg Pyrex
- Chemical or biohazard glassware
GLASS – INFINITELY RECYCLABLE
Glass is infinitely recyclable because it can be recycled, remelt and reused infinite times without losing its purity.
Paper is not infinitely recyclable because the paper fibers get too weak to form new paper.
Plastics is also not infinitely recyclable as the max number of cycles is 2-3 times. Most plastics are down-cycled to a lower application.
MISSION – BRING GLASS FROM BOTTOM 3
Glass is now the 3rd from the bottom in terms of Singapore recycling rate at 8%.
With public support, Topflight can easily bring Singapore glass recycling rate out of bottom 3 and into the top half of recycling rate ranks.
TOPFLIGHT FUTURE PLAN
Topflight has the expertise of setting up and running a large network of RVMs (reverse vending machine) to collect glass bottles besides PET bottles and aluminum cans. We hope to help Singapore proliferate RVM to glass bottle.
Topflight has the expertise and a wide-network to recycle other recyclable materials too.
In near future, Topflight may start to collect recyclable aluminum cans, plastic bottles and paper cartons.
